What does this session involve?

You will meet your instructor at a carpark near the climbing location to have a quick chat and fit your harness and helmets before the session. There will then be a short walk to the cliff where the instructor will set up ropes for you to try out several different rock climbs. Depending on location you may also be able to try out abseiling. You’ll be guided through movement skills and key safety skills by your instructor, ensuring you get the most out of your experience.

Who is it for?

This taster session is ideal for anyone looking to try outdoor rock climbing for the first time, or for those who have done it a few times before and want to brush up on their skills. It has been particularly popular with:

  • Families looking for an adventurous day out
  • Indoor climbers who want to try climbing outdoors.
  • Beginners trying climbing for the first time

Under 18’s are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent throughout the session.

Where is it?

Our base is in Aberdeen where the closest climbing is on sea cliffs just 10 minutes drive from the city centre – near Cove. We also use sea cliffs north of the city near Cruden Bay. There are inland options too, at Kirriemuir and Ballater.

Looking for a different location? Get in touch as we can travel further afield.

What kit do I need?

  • Sturdy shoes to climb in – We also have some rock climbing shoes available you can try
  • Snacks and water
  • A small backpack to carry the above (and a helmet) to the cliffs is useful.
